For Sale Jeffair Barracuda Project Complete

as described

$15000 complete

email: raf.tucano@gmail.com

After many years of on and off construction I have decided to sell my Jeffair Barracuda. The reason for sale is my life was spent working and there would always be tomorrow, well tomorrow passed by.

The airframe has been build with all new aircraft grade materials and parts and will be sold at a price that would make it suitable for some with time available seeking a true high performance aircraft on a budget.
com
My preference is to see someone have a good chance of completion by selling at a realistic price. Should I be unable to sell the project as a whole I will break up the aircraft into smaller parts for sale.

Airframe
Airframe is constructed in accordance with the plans supplied by Jeff Siers using only aircraft grade plywood and sitka spruce.

All spars were manufactured by  Stan Weiss Enterprise and are of the highest quality. These spars were originally glued together then run thru a sizer to final over all thickness. The glue used throughout the project is Hughes FPL16A except for T88 used to attached the ribs to the outer spars. All major brackets and spar straps are cad plated to QQ spec by Hawker De-Havilland.

The fuselage is functional complete with the wiring at an advanced stage but will have to be finished and checked. One outer wing panel is complete with the other requiring covering with 2.5 mm ply. The builder is willing to work with the purchaser in completing this task which would allow him to gain valuable skills for future work.

A new owner will have to purchase the necessary ply and glue to complete the outstanding assembly.

A small amount of work is still to be undertaken by the current owner to finish the fiber glassing of the passenger cockpit and linear actuator. This would be done with the new owner after purchase at Rylstone as part of a handover.

Modifications to Plans
Panel is one piece 1/8'' CNC machined aluminium mounted on rubber isolators.

Provision has been made for a 4 or 5 point harness

Secondary gear doors are fitted and working

Toe brakes fitted pilot's side

Hook retraction is by linear actuator using a DPDT switch to be incorporated into the panel for gear operation. Actuation system is now electro-mechanical

Turtle-links fitted to carry locking springs over main leg on retraction.

Tip tanks are to be fitted to both wings increasing the total fuel load by 12 gallons per side. This is supported by a dual fuel selectors incorporated into the cockpit allowing pilot with the main selector OFF-LEFT-RIGHT-AUX and the auxiliary tanks LEFT-RIGHT. All fuel lines and flexible holes installed or manufactured for installation.

All flexible line are JEGS Pro 2000 stainless steel braided hose JEGS Pro-Flo 200 Series which are suitable for use with auto fuels. These were tested with a propane torch applied on the outer stainless steel covering and only began to smolder on the inside at approx 6 minutes with no fuel in line. Fire sleeve is also supplied to cover the lines on the firewall as required.

Trim motor now MAC trim

All communication antenna are internal and fitted to the fuselage with all cables ready for connection to the COMs

Lower Rudder pivot is now a 1/4'' ball bearing. The plans now call up 3/8'' pivot but this was required as the 1/4 bolt and bush on the original wore due to the high load form the rudder cables. The bearing is a superior to a bush.

Joy sticks pivots run on Bakelite bushes instead of steel on steel as per plan and are fitted with grips

Undercarriage links are fitted with grease nipples and snap caps.

Fuselage canopy spline depth increased to strengthen assembly and to allow frame pivots to be fitted with self aligning bearings. Larger aluminium T section and bearings included for this task.

Airframe
Functionally complete including elevator / rudders / center section / outer wing panels. Frames for canopy complete ready to fit perspex.

All cables and other controls are fabricated and installed in fuselage

Undercarriage
Complete with tires, brakes and rims and installed into center section. Nose wheel complete but disassembled to allow fabrication of engine mount. All materials as per Siers plans with a few practical modification for improved maintenance. All links have been fitted with grease nipples and caps.

Engine
Engine is a O-540-A1B5 with 1928 log book hours to run from zero time overhaul - the engine was inhibited on shutdown for storage and has not been disturbed. It has been located in a insulated and lined workshop for all that time. Logs book available.

Twin Lasair CDI ignitions systems are available to be fitted replacing the factory Bendix magnetos. A B&C 40 amp alternator has been fitted to replace the factory generator. The original components are available for sale or reuse by any new owner.

Governor is supplied

Lycoming Alternator flywheel for the B&C alternator.

Inconel exhaust system - near new

The engine mount is at a advanced stage and a jig is supplied for final welding. The upper cross member that will foul with the vacuum pump and has to be modified as per the Siers supplemental notes.

All new Lord mounting rubber included

This engine was fitted with chrome cylinders [orange mark] at the rebuild and would require a inspection of the camshaft which I intended to replace with a center lube pressure feed aftermarket model

Welding jig for engine mount supplied

Engine mount 70% complete

Electrical
All wire used is aircraft grade purchased from Aircraft Spruce. All circuit breakers are are Tyco supplied by Aircraft Spruce along with the switches. Wiring diagrams have been prepared for each circuit and plug and the owner is willing to update with assistance and supply new prints and DXF files to allow future modifications on any CAD system.

Assembly issues to be addressed
The leading edge profile for the ribs was manufactured using the Siers coordinates - these are now know to be to few and provide a inferior profile. The leading edge upper an lower will have to be covered with urethane foam to thicken the leading edge.

The GO-Air fuel tanks were manufactured using the Siers profiles and are larger that the spar by about 3 mm and the most practical fix is to pack the top side of the upper center section profile to blend into the tanks. These tanks allow removal for maintenance access whereas the Siers design would have to destroyed in removal.
